Sanctuary For Life is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization registered in 2001 for research, education, scientific and charitable purposes.
Our Mission is to help those in need of experiencing loss recovery, stress reduction and/or spiritual renewal by providing a Sanctuary in which they can find inner peace, emotional balance and spiritual joy, and teaching them how to create Sanctuary wherever they are.
Our Strategy is to offer a broad array of Sanctuary services to fee-based clients and use profits from the sales of those services to fund pro-bono services for caregivers. Our services are designed to serve anyone in need of Sanctuary, for the support of those who provide physical, mental and emotional healing to others. We offer pro-bono rejuvenation and renewal for healing facilitators, spiritual leaders, medical personnel, caregivers and select others in need of physical, emotional and/or spiritual rejuvenation.
The Need for Sanctuary is great. According to the AARP, there are over 44 million adult caregivers in the United States alone. The average length of care-giving 4.3 years. 80% of the long-term care in the country is done by friends and family. 43% of these caregivers are over 50 themselves; 13% are over 65. They spend most of their weeks on exhausting chores, from medication management and bathing to feeding, clothing and arranging health care services. 23 million households are currently home to a caregiver.
Caregivers stand at particular risk for a host of mental illnesses, many of which have roots in stress, exhaustion, and self neglect. Because all caregivers struggle in some way, experts say that reaching out to help them ease stress, while finding spiritual peace, might be one of the most positive moves of all.
